DUSU election results
The University of Delhi (DU) is set to announce the results of the Delhi University Students’ Union elections today.
Initially scheduled for release immediately after the elections, the announcement was delayed following a High Court order. The judgment came after the elections, held on September 27, 2024, saw widespread defacing of public spaces with campaign materials.
Vote counting for the central panel and college representatives will begin at 8:30 am at the DU Conference Centre. The process will be overseen by an Election Commission team, as per an official statement.
CPI(M)’s march to CBI office
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] will hold a march to the CBI office at the CGO complex in Kolkata today, demanding a quick completion of the investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at
RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The march will mark the 100th day since the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the central agency.
The case revolves around the death of an on-duty doctor, whose body was discovered in the hospital’s seminar room, leading to widespread outrage and protests by junior doctors across the state.
On August 13, the Calcutta High Court assigned the case to the CBI.
Funeral of Russian ballet star Vladimir Shklyarov
Russian ballet star Vladimir Shklyarov, who died on Saturday in Saint Petersburg, will be honoured with a public funeral at the Mariinsky Theatre today.
Shklyarov died at the age of 39 after falling from a fifth-story building. According to The Independent, the incident took place while he was on painkillers ahead of spinal surgery scheduled for November 18.

Third execution using nitrogen gas in the US
Alabama death row inmate Carey Grayson is set to become the third person in the United States to be executed using nitrogen gas.
Grayson, now 49, was convicted of the 1994 murder of 37-year-old hitchhiker Vickie Lynn Deblieux.
Deblieux, who was hitchhiking from Tennessee to Louisiana to visit her mother, was tortured, bludgeoned, and mutilated by Grayson and three other teenagers after being picked up along a highway near Trussville.

If carried out as planned, Grayson’s execution will mark the 22nd death penalty case in the country this year.
Vietnam’s To Lam will travel to Malaysia
To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, will begin a three-day official visit to Malaysia today, aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. Notably, this would mark his first visit to Malaysia since assuming his role as party leader in August 2024.
An official statement read that “their discussion will focus on the progress of ongoing bilateral relations, particularly cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture and commodities, the halal industry, energy, digital technology, and information and communication.”
