Hungary has become the second NATO country, after Portugal, to welcome the C-390 Millennium. Delivered on 5th September 2004, the aircraft is the first in the world to be equipped with a roll-on/roll-off intensive care unit, making it ideally suited for humanitarian and medical evacuation missions. The Hungarian Air Force will also use their first C-390 (one of two ordered) for troop transport, precision cargo airdrop, paratrooper deployment, search and rescue missions, plus air-to-air refuelling.
As Hungarian Defence Minister recently stated, “the arrival of the aircraft represents a real milestone for the Hungarian Air Force, as it will give the Hungarian Defence Force unprecedented capabilities in military air transport. It is in Hungary’s security interest to have strong, well equipped, modern defence forces, and we are working on that. Embraer is an excellent partner in this.”
The C-390 first entered service with the Brazilian Air Force (FAP) in 2019, and the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, deployed in a variety of roles that underline its true multi-mission capabilities. Compared to other medium-sized military transport aircraft the C-390 can carry more payload (26 tons) and flies faster (470 knots) and further. To date, the C-390 has accumulated more than 14,000 flight hours and achieved a mission capable rate of 93% and mission completion rates above 99%.
In Europe an increasing number of air forces are choosing the C-390 (the Netherlands, Austria and Czech Republic have all placed orders) attracted by the platform’s unbeatable combination of technology, speed, performance and multi-mission features.
